SBC AMERICAS (August 22, 2024) – While it is not quite a full-fledged online poker client, DraftKings has launched its first-ever peer-to-peer poker game.
Titled Electric Poker, the offering is a three-handed Sit & Go poker tournament that mimics the dynamics of Blast SNGs on WSOP.com or Spin and Go tournaments on PokerStars.
These lottery-style Sit & Gos have a variable prize pool, which means players can win anywhere from two times to 10,000 times their buy-in. Electric Poker features two-minute blind levels and the number of levels played before players are forced all in varies depending on how big the payout will be.
Buy-ins range from $1-$25 and the game is housed within the DraftKings Casino app. This is a marked difference from WSOP.com and PokerStars, which offer a much wider range of poker options housed on a client separate from Caesars and FanDuel casino products.
Electric Poker only available in Michigan
For now the product is only live in Michigan.
Michigan allows player pooling with Nevada and New Jersey, but for now the product is only available in the one state.
To date, DraftKings has not bothered getting into the relatively small online poker market. WSOP.com and PokerStars are the dominant players in the market, but on a recent earnings call Caesars Digital President Eric Hession did note that the online part of the business was mostly just break-even.
Caesars announced the sale of the World Series of Poker brand to GG Poker earlier this month but will retain control of the WSOP.com online brand via a licensing agreement “for the foreseeable future.”
