Celebrating the Positive Impact of Lotteries During National Lottery Week

CONCORD, Ohio (July 15, 2026) – The eighth annual national Lottery Week is underway, and the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries is proud to join lotteries and industry partners across the United States and Canada in celebrating the positive impact lotteries have on the communities they serve.

Lotteries were created to generate funding for public good, and they continue to fulfill that mission every day. From education and college scholarships to environmental conservation, senior programs, economic development, health and human services, local infrastructure, and more, lotteries provide critical funding for initiatives that improve lives and strengthen communities.

"In fiscal year 2025 alone, U.S. lotteries generated more than $28.4 billion for public programs and services. Those dollars help fund priorities that improve the quality of life in our communities every single day, and we're proud to recognize the role lotteries play in making that possible."

The impact extends well beyond beneficiary funding. Lotteries support tens of thousands of jobs across North America through public operations and private-sector partnerships. The industry also supports hundreds of thousands of retail businesses by driving in-store traffic and generating commission-based income.

In addition to their economic contributions, lotteries are deeply engaged in their communities, sponsoring charitable initiatives, community events, food drives, environmental projects, and other programs that make a meaningful local impact.

Player well-being remains a top priority. Lotteries are committed to promoting responsible gambling through ongoing education, retailer training, and collaboration with responsible gambling organizations to ensure players have the information and resources they need to make informed decisions.

And, of course, lotteries provide millions of players with moments of entertainment and excitement, while creating life-changing wins for many.

National Lottery Week was established to raise awareness of these contributions and recognize the important role lotteries play in supporting the jurisdictions they serve.

National Lottery Week grew from a grassroots initiative launched by the Massachusetts Lottery in 2018, when it designated July 17 as National Lottery Day to highlight the lottery's ongoing contributions to local aid. Since then, the observance has expanded into a week-long celebration recognized by lotteries and industry partners throughout North America.
