RICHMOND, Va. (May 12, 2026) – April was a winning month for the Virginia Lottery in a way that goes far beyond luck and games. During Global Volunteer Month, Lottery employees turned out to make an impact in their home communities, volunteering with a total of 16 organizations.
“The Lottery has a strong commitment to encouraging employees to help their communities across Virginia,” said Lottery Executive Director Khalid Jones. “Our Lottery Outreach program provides employees 24 hours of paid time each year to volunteer as Lottery representatives and make a positive impact in their communities.”

Out of the Lottery’s 423-person statewide workforce, 128 employees lent more than 349 volunteer hours of their time, talent and helping hands to projects, such as:
Blanket-cutting sessions for Jill’s Blankets, where employees made blankets for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Employees working at Lottery headquarters, customer service centers and Virginia casinos cut, tied and delivered blankets to cancer patients.
Homebuilding with Habitat for Humanity in Richmond.
Lunch Buddy Program through Communities in Schools at Westover Hills Elementary.
Meal and warehouse packaging/sorting with several food banks across the Commonwealth to include Chesterfield Food Bank Outreach Center, Feed More, Feeding Southwest Virginia, Northern Virginia Food Rescue, and Virginia Peninsula Food Bank, all providing meals for areas facing food insecurity in their communities.
Beautification and cleanup for SOAR365 (Park 365), the Carillon Civic Association through our partnership with the City of Richmond and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond.
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School Field Day in Louisa County.
First Tee RVA in partnership with Henrico County Schools field trip, supporting the staff and helping young people build confidence, character, and life skills through golf.
Cleanup and animal care at both Richmond and Fredericksburg SPCAs.
“The Virginia Lottery is regularly named a top workplace, and our culture of outreach and volunteerism is a big reason,” said Jones. “The Lottery specifically curated and internally promoted opportunities, and our employees responded.”
All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. In Fiscal Year 2025, the Lottery generated more than $901 million for K-12 education, making up approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s total K-12 school budget.
