VI Lottery Hosts Territory-Wide Holiday Lights Competition

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands (November 18, 2025) – The Virgin Islands Lottery is thrilled to announce its “Deck the House” Holiday Lights Competition. The Competition is designed to incentivize residents to spread the holiday cheer through festive décor and lights in celebration of the season. Participants on each island will have a chance to win up to $3,500.


The competition is open to Virgin Islands residents and the deadline to enter is Friday, December 5th before 5pm. Applications are available on the VI Lottery’s website at https://www.winusvilottery.com.


The competition rules are as follows:

  • The competition is for exterior decorations only, including decorations in windows that are visible from the exterior. Judging is based on “curb appeal” as viewed from street only. Judges will not enter the property to view back or side of yards.

  • Participants must agree to have one or more photos of their decorated residence exterior posted on the Virgin Islands Lottery website and Facebook page. The People’s Choice winner will be selected from the photo with the most likes and shares on the VIL Facebook page.

  • Participants are asked to keep their houses decorated through January 6, 2026 (Three Kings Day) so that the community can enjoy them.


Judging

The judging criteria will be based on creativity (originality, unique design and/or use of storyline or theme); lights and decorations (display and placement); special effects (sound effects, animation, etc.); overall appearance (effort & attractiveness). The judging period will take place December 19 & December 20. Decorations for the contest must be illuminated between 6pm – 10pm for judging.


Prizes

For the best holiday lights display are 1st Place - $3,500; 2nd Place - $2,500; 3rd Place -$1,500. The People’s Choice winner will receive their January & February WAPA bill paid in full. There will be three winners per island (St. Croix, St. Thomas, & St. John) for a total of 9 winners and possibly 10, if the People’s Choice winner is not one of the judges selections.


Winners will be announced on December 22 and announced through the VI Lottery ‘s website and Facebook page. Winners must appear in person at the VI Lottery office to claim their prize.
