South Carolina Lottery Raises $546.8 Million for Education

COLUMBIA, S.C. (July 15, 2025) – For the fifth straight year, the South Carolina Education Lottery is reporting it has raised more than half-a-billion dollars for education.

South Carolina’s students will benefit from a transfer of $546.8 million in lottery funds for Fiscal Year 2025. This brings the Lottery’s total contribution to educational programs to $8.9 BILLION since the games began in 2002.

“The Lottery continues to deliver in a big way for our state’s students,” said the Lottery’s Executive Director Dolly Garfield. “Our consistency is only possible because of the support we’ve received from our loyal players, hardworking retailers, committed employees and the Lottery Board of Commissioners.”

The ongoing popularity of scratch-off tickets and increased interest in SC’s own Palmetto Cash 5 game with a new rolling jackpot, all contributed to the Lottery’s year-end results.

FY 2025 also saw lottery players win more than $1.5 billion in prize money and lottery retailers earned in excess of $160 million in commissions.

Chairman of the SC Lottery Commission, Sam Litchfield adds, “On behalf of the Board, we are proud of what the Lottery was able to achieve this year. We have made another significant investment that will have a positive and lasting impact in our state for years to come.”

Lottery proceeds are deposited into the Education Lottery Account, from which the General Assembly makes appropriations in support of higher education scholarships and grants, K-12 public education programs and community education programs throughout the state.
