Khalid R. Jones Selected as Lead Director for Mega Millions

RICHMOND, Va. (December 2, 2025) – The Mega Millions Consortium has announced the selection of Virginia Lottery Director Khalid R. Jones as its new Lead Director.

In accepting the role, Jones expressed appreciation for the leaders who previously held the position. “I am especially grateful for the example that Josh Johnston and Gretchen Corbin have set in this capacity during my time as a Director,” he said. “I look forward to working with everyone in this new role as we all push the industry forward together.”

He also extended thanks to fellow Consortium members and offered a warm welcome to the group’s newest member, Brian Bennett of Washington’s Lottery.

With the lottery landscape continuing to evolve, the new Lead Director emphasized the importance of unity and focus. “The challenges of the present may be different than those of the past, but I am confident in our collective resolve to meet them head on,” he said.

Mega Millions is the only lottery game that has produced seven jackpot wins exceeding $1 billion each – all in different states. South Carolina was the first in 2018, followed by Michigan in 2021, Illinois in 2022, Maine and Florida in 2023, and New Jersey and California in 2024. Half of the proceeds from the sale of each Mega Millions ticket remains in the state where the ticket was sold, where the money supports designated good causes and retailer commissions.

Drawings are conducted at 11 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesdays and Fridays in Atlanta, Georgia. The overall odds of winning any Mega Millions prize are 1 in 23; the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 290,472,336.
