VI Lottery Diabetes Awareness Month Ticket Now on Sale

ST. THOMAS, V.I. (October 23, 2024) – In partnership with the Virgin Islands Diabetes Center of Excellence (VIDCOE), the VI Lottery observes Diabetes Awareness Month in October.

Diabetes is the sixth leading cause of death in the Virgin Islands with 16.6% of the population living with the chronic disease.  Diabetes occurs when the body is not making or using insulin efficiently. It is a major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, strokes, and lower limb amputations. The VIDCOE encourages all residents to know their numbers and get tested today. Regular physical activity and a balance nutritious diet can help prevent a diagnosis.
