JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (August 8, 2025) – Missouri Lottery ticket sales produced $337.5 million in proceeds for public education in FY25*. Throughout the fiscal year, Lottery sales topped $1.6 billion with 100% of proceeds transferred to the state solely for public education.

“Each day, this team is motivated to help fund educational opportunities for Missouri students. In fact, the Missouri Lottery has provided more than $8.6 BILLION to the state and public education since it began in 1986.”

“The Missouri Lottery is a strong partner for the State of Missouri,” noted Lester Elder, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “Each day, this team is motivated to help fund educational opportunities for Missouri students. In fact, the Missouri Lottery has provided more than $8.6 BILLION to the state and public education since it began in 1986.”

Lottery proceeds typically comprise 3-4% of the state’s funding for public education, contributing up to 9.2% of what the state provides public universities and colleges and 5.8% of community college funding. Each year, the Missouri Legislature determines which education programs will receive monies from Lottery proceeds, as well as the amount appropriated for each.

Elder also noted more than $1.1 billion was paid out to Lottery winners as prizes, and Missouri businesses earned a combined $95 million selling Lottery games in FY25 – which ran from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.

More than $4.1 million in state tax withholdings was also collected on prizes won by Missouri Lottery players in FY25, and an additional $1.3 million was recovered in debts due to the State, including back taxes and child support obligations.
