Kitty Named 'Coolest Cat' in Texas Lottery Contest

Social media competition coincides with pet-themed scratch ticket game offering

$12 million in cash prizes

AUSTIN (May 15, 2024) – The votes are in and we have a winner! Miss Kiddy Kitty, a seven-year-old gray tabby from Flower Mound, has earned the title of “Coolest Cat in Texas” after clawing past fellow cool cats around the state in the cat division of the Lucky Dog/Cool Cat Photo Challenge, that was conducted by the Texas Lottery on its Facebook page from March 27-April 3.

“Texas is home to a lot of cool cats, but our Facebook followers have spoken, and we’re proud to celebrate Miss Kiddy Kitty as the coolest of them all,” said Ryan Mindell, executive director of the Texas Lottery Commission. “While our photo contest may be over, thousands of Texans can still be winners when they play the Lucky Dog/Cool Cat scratch ticket game.”

Highlighting its Lucky Dog/Cool Cat scratch ticket game, which gives players who buy a $2 ticket the chance to win cash prizes worth up to $30,000, the Lucky Dog/Cool Cat Photo Challenge featured separate entries for ‘cool cats’ and ‘lucky dogs.’ Pet owners were invited to post a selfie with their pet in the comment section of the contest post. The owner whose selfie photo received the most Facebook ‘likes’ in each section was awarded a custom pet photoshoot with their furry friend. The competition attracted hundreds of submissions and votes from across the state.

“Miss Kiddy Kitty was a rescue cat and ever since we brought her home she’s been the queen of the castle,” said Judy Gregg, Miss Kiddy Kitty’s owner. “She has a massive personality and we do what she wants us to do. She certainly believes she’s the coolest cat in Texas and when I told her she’d won, she thought it was long overdue!”

While Miss Kiddy Kitty won in the cat category, the lucky dog section was won by a nine-month-old standard poodle mix named Luka, from Gregory near Corpus Christi, entered by owner Lorena Lara.

Launched in March of this year, the Lucky Dog/Cool Cat scratch ticket game has been dedicated to supporting Texas veterans, with sales from the game being generated for the Texas Veterans Commission’s Fund for Veterans’ Assistance. As of May 13, seven top prizes of $30,000 remain to be claimed, with thousands of other prizes ranging from $2 to $1,000 still up for grabs. In total, the game offers more than $12 million in cash prizes.
